Best Places for Engagement Photos on the Mississippi Gulf Coast
There is something about the Mississippi Gulf Coast that photographs beautifully. You get soft sand, open water, long horizons, historic architecture and some incredible sunsets—and you can completely change the look of your engagement photos without driving very far.
As a photographer, I also love locations that give us more than one background. I want somewhere we can walk, move, play with the light and create a gallery that doesn’t look like we stood in the same spot for an hour.
Here are a few Mississippi Gulf Coast locations I would put at the top of the list.
Ocean Springs Front Beach
Ocean Springs Beach is one of my favorites if you want something relaxed, romantic and a little less “touristy beach.”
You have sand, water, the shoreline and views toward the Biloxi Bay Bridge. Ocean Springs also gives us the option of pairing the beach with a second location around town, which works beautifully when you want both coastal and more editorial images in the same engagement session.
Perfect for: barefoot photos, movement, sunset sessions and couples wanting an easy coastal feel.
Biloxi Lighthouse & Beach
For something unmistakably Mississippi Gulf Coast, Biloxi Lighthouse is hard to beat.
The lighthouse dates to 1848 and sits directly along Beach Boulevard, with the beach and Mississippi Sound right there. That means we can incorporate the landmark without making your entire engagement session feel like a tourist photo.
I would especially love this location for a couple who wants a little architecture mixed with romantic beach photographs.
Perfect for: classic coastal photographs, dressier outfits and couples who want their Mississippi location to actually show in their images.
Pass Christian
Pass Christian Beach has a quieter, slower feeling that I really love for engagement photography.
The shoreline tends to feel less busy, giving us room to create those wide cinematic photographs where the couple feels tiny against the sky and water.
For an even quieter option, Henderson Point Beach at the western end of Pass Christian is especially known for open water views and sunsets.
Perfect for: intimate sessions, sunset silhouettes, romantic dresses and couples who don't want a busy background.
Bay St. Louis
Bay St. Louis Beach gives you something a little different because we can combine the water with the character of Bay St. Louis.
A session here could start around town with a more styled, editorial feel and finish barefoot near the water as the sun goes down.
That mixture is exactly what I look for when planning an engagement session because you end up with photographs that feel like two sessions without having to spend half the evening driving.
Perfect for: couples who want variety, date-night engagement photos and a combination of coastal and small-town imagery.
Gulfport Beach
Gulfport Beach, MS offers long stretches of sand with easy access to the waterfront and nearby harbor areas.
Because the shoreline is so open, this is a location where light becomes a huge part of the photographs. Give me a beautiful sunset, a little wind and two people willing to move around and we can make something gorgeous.
Ken Combs Pier is another option nearby if we want to incorporate the lines of a pier and create something a little more cinematic.
Perfect for: sunset photographs, wide compositions, playful couples and anyone wanting the beach to be the main character.
What Time Should You Take Engagement Photos on the Mississippi Coast?
Whenever possible, I recommend scheduling coastal engagement sessions around sunset.
The hour before sunset gives us softer light, warmer skin tones and a changing sky. I usually like to begin while there is still enough daylight to photograph movement and details, then continue through sunset and into that softer blue light afterward.
And cloudy days? Don't panic. Some of my favorite photographs happen when the coast gets moody.
Your Engagement Session Doesn't Have to Feel Like a Photoshoot
You do not need to know how to pose.
I would much rather have you walk down the beach, tease each other, dance badly, grab your partner, get your dress a little sandy and actually enjoy yourselves. I'll direct you when you need it, but the goal is for the photographs to still feel like you.
If you're planning an engagement session anywhere along the Mississippi Gulf Coast—from Ocean Springs and Biloxi to Gulfport, Pass Christian or Bay St. Louis—I would love to create something with you.
